Day Trip to Littlehampton
by: Chris Packham
After a quick exploration of the old boat yard on the other side of the river Alfredo and I joined the main group who were sitting on the pebbly beach in front of the coastguard station. The weather wasn’t good but this didn’t seem to have dampened the spirits of the SUKA day-trippers who were tucking into the picnic lunch that they had brought with them. As usual with these gatherings there was more than enough food to go around and we had chance to sample such delights as pansit, chicken legs, fruit salad and cassava, not forgetting the ‘Sky Crackers’.
There was to be no swimming on this occasion as the tide was out. To reach the sea required a long walk and was very shallow. The children were still able to amuse themselves making sandcastles though and the train that ran along the promenade was very popular with the youngsters.
